BANANA OVERVIEW
🍌SUPPLY UPDATE
National Banana transport figures for week 17 were down by approximately 56,000 cartons from week 16. Week 17 saw 369,829 cartons sent from North Queensland. Temperatures in the far north have seen early A.M. temperatures fall within a range of 13.3 - 22.4C across all major growing regions; and day time temperatures still ranging 23.3 - 30.7C. Rainfall in North Qld banana growing regions this week was as follows: Mareeba receiving 0.4mm for the week; and Innisfail receiving a total of a 1.6mm, so minimal, which is great to allow for some wetter patches to dry out around the district.
A slight improvement in Banana quality in most stores though still seeing variance in fruit colour and degree of skin marking, also seeing some dull fruit; a little sooty mould and minor skin marking including neck injuries on shelves this week.
Retail ticket pricing in Queensland for cavendish bananas were stable as follows: Aldi’s banana ticket price at $4.49/kg; Woolies offered fruit at a ticket price of $4.50-4.90/kg; and Coles were offering fruit at $4.50-4.90/kg in the stores visited.
