BANANA OVERVIEW

🍌SUPPLY UPDATE

National Banana transport figures for Week 39 were down by approximately 60,000 cartons on the week prior to a total of 450,708 cartons for the week. Temperatures in the far north varied greatly for the early A.M. falling within a range of 12.3 - 20.9C across all major growing regions; and day time temperatures were moderate this week ranging 23.1 - 28.4C. North Qld banana growing regions experienced another relatively dry week on the Tablelands with falls as follows: Mareeba receiving 0mm for the week to date; Walkamin with 4.4mm; and the coastal regions experienced heavy falls with Innisfail receiving a total of 144.2mm and South Johnston totaling 140.0mm across the week which may impact the amount of minor skin defects.

This week we found Banana displays to be improving in bloom with primarily bright fruit on most displays though there is still a percentage of duller fruit in some outlets, There is a continued presence of light skin marking, bat/bird marking, thrip damage, sap staining being viewed in some displays .

Queensland major retailers had bananas priced as follows: Aldi’s banana ticket price at $4.49/kg; Woolies offered fruit at a ticket price of $4.50/kg- $4.90/kg depending upon store location; and Coles were offering fruit at $4.50/kg.

AVOCADO OVERVIEW

🥑SUPPLY UPDATE

In a nutshell the national production figures for last week were as follows:

Week 39, 2025 - Avocado production for this week reached 461,795 tray equivalents, which is down on the previous week by approx 32,000 trays. The quantity of bulks/processing/other volume lifted by approximately 6000 units on last week, to just over 82,000 tray equivalents, which leaves approximately 380,000 tray equivalents (mix of premium and class one) for supermarket and market sales.

Production across the country saw WA/NT’s level of production take the lead in harvest volumes with 25.83% of total production; Central NSW jumped to second spot this week with 21.65%; then NZ for 21.744%; then Tristate accounting for 19.03% of the national production followed next by Southern QLD accounting for 8.02%; TNR for 1.85%; North Qld for 1.39%; and Sunshine Coast accounting for 0.78% of the total production for the week. A slight reduction in volume this week is expected to keep pricing steady.

It is forecast that a total of some 435,278 tray equivalents will be dispatched this week (Week 40) nationally, with all trays being Hass! Total avocado production for the next three week period thereafter, is expected to fall within a somewhat lower range of 410K-411K tray equivalents per week, so if accurate in the ensuing weeks we may see fruit pricing rise.

In terms of Avocado retailing in the major supermarkets in Qld this week, we saw pricing as follows - Aldi with Hass retailing at $2.49ea this week;  Coles Qld stores visited had Hass avos at $2.50ea; and Woolworths were retailing Hass at $2.50ea or 2 for $4.50.
