National Banana transport figures for week 39 were definitely up - total number of cartons harvested and transported nationally were in the vicinity of 517,000 cartons which is indicative of the warmer growing conditions. Temperatures in the far north this week saw early A.M. temperatures falling within a range of 13.2 - 20.9C across all major growing regions; and day time temperatures ranging 25.0 - 33.4C. North Qld banana growing regions this week saw minimal rain with recordings as follows: Mareeba receiving 0.2mm for the week and Walkamin with 1.4mm; with the coastal regions also experienced a few showers - Innisfail receiving a total of a 1.6mm and South Johnston receiving 3.0mm throughout the week.

Banana skin colour was found to be a little backward in a number of stores visited this week; bloom also varied across displays, noted a little bat/bird marking and light sooty mould present in a few displays.

Retail ticket pricing in Queensland for cavendish bananas were as follows: Aldi’s banana ticket price at $4.49/kg; Woolies offered fruit at a ticket price of $4.50/kg depending upon location; and Coles were offering fruit at $4.50/kg in the stores visited depending upon location.

🥑SUPPLY UPDATE

In a nutshell the national production figures for last week were as follows:

· Week 39, 2025 - The industry experienced an overall 20.11% increase in production on the previous week’s harvest with this weeks total of 489,211 tray equivalents harvested and transported (approx 99,000 more tray equivalents) on Week 38, 2025 production.

Production across the country saw WA/NT growing the lead - accounting for 53.79% of the national production, followed by Tristate accounting for 19.02% ; whilst Central NSW accounted for 13.68%, Southern Queensland for 6.28%, NZ for 4.95% and TNR for 2.29% of the total production for the week.

· It is forecast that a total of some 484,000 tray equivalents will be dispatched this week (Week 40) nationally, with the majority of these of course being Hass! Production for the next three week period thereafter, is expected to fall within the range of 503K-532K tray equivalents per week.

In terms of Avocado retailing in the major supermarkets in Qld this week, we saw pricing remain fairly stable ie - Aldi’s Hass at $1.79each; Coles Qld stores visited had Hass avos on promo at $1.80ea or 2 for $3.50; whilst Woolworths were retailing Hass at $1.70-$2.00ea depending upon store location.
