BANANA OVERVIEW

🍌SUPPLY UPDATE

National Banana transport figures for Week 8 were 525,585 for the week which was an increase of almost 44,000 cartons on Week 7 national harvest. Temperatures in the far north are similar to be last week with early A.M. temperatures falling within a range of 20.2 - 26.1C across all major growing regions; and day time temperatures still ranging 27.0- 35.6C with high humidity. North Qld banana growing regions experienced further rainfalls associated with the traditional wet season with Mareeba receiving 58.2mm for the week to date; Walkamin with 87.2mm; the coastal regions like Innisfail had falls totaling 52.6mm and South Johnston totaling 35.0mm across the week!

Banana displays varied across stores visited, light skin marking and bruising present, thrip damage, rust marking - there were definitely some better displays.

Queensland major retailers had bananas priced as follows: Aldi’s banana ticket price at $4.49/kg; Woolies offered fruit at a ticket price of $4.90/kg; and Coles were offering fruit at $4.50/kg by tickets on display.

AVOCADO OVERVIEW

🥑SUPPLY UPDATE

In a nutshell the national production figures for last week were as follows

Week 8, 2025 - Avocado production for this week reached 608,109 tray equivalents, approximately 33,000 less than the previous week.

Production across the country saw WA/NT (Hass) maintaining the lead in terms of production - accounting for 67.88% of the national production, followed by North Queensland accounting for 31.75% (Shepards) ; Central NSW accounting for 0.19%; and Tristate for 0.17% (Reeds+ other) of the total production for the week.

 It is forecast that a total of some 625,354 tray equivalents will be dispatched this week (Week 9) nationally, with the majority of these of course still being Hass, but have no doubt the Shepards are continuing to build with respects to volume! Total production for the next three week period thereafter, is expected to fall within the range of 459K-527K tray equivalents per week.

In terms of Avocado retailing in the major supermarkets in Qld this week, we saw hass pricing as follows - Aldi featured new season Shepard’s in their weekly catalogue at $1.19 eachColes Qld stores visited had Hass avos at 2 for $3.50; and Woolworths were retailing Shepards at $1.90ea but by Thursday had price matched Aldi in a number of stores with fruit at $1.20ea.

  • Ct 18 Hass Avocados priced 2 for $3.50 supplied by Avocado Collective fruit packed 8th Feb so fruit age was 18 days according to new label applied over original farm label which shows fruit was packed 5th Feb making fruit 21 days old.

  • Prepacks: 1kg I’m Perfect packs at $7.00ea.

COLES SUNNYBANK HILLS

  • Ct 18 WA Hass Avocados priced 2 for $3.50 supplied by Avocado Collective packed 9th Feb so fruit was 14 days old according to new label applied over farm label which indicates fruit was packed on 5th Feb so true age is 18 days old.

  • Mostly minor markings, however some individual fruit with more considerable pest damage, latania scale, stings.

  • Prepacks: 5 piece packs at $7.00ea and 1kg packs also at $7.00ea.

COLES SUNNYBANK PLAZA

  • Costa supplied WA Hass Avocados Ct20 priced 2 for $3.50 packed 5th Feb so fruit is 20 days old.

  • 1kg packs at $7.00ea. Organic avos at $4.50ea had a residue or mould forming??

  • Hass Ct 18-23 priced at $1.50ea - supplied by Purpleskin/Greenskins - some rots and breakdown present.

  • Prepacks: 1kg packs at $6.00ea.

WOOLWORTHS SUNNYBANK HILLS

  • Hass Ct 23-25 priced at $1.90ea supplied by Greenskins packed 4th-10th Feb so fruit is 13-23 days old. By Thursday price had been reduced to $1.20/piece. Again rots and breakdown present particularly amongst the Eat Now stock packed 4th and 5th Feb; fresher stock packed 10th and 11th Feb cleaner and very firm.
