National Banana transport figures for Week 15 were approximately 473,000 cartons another slight increase on last week of an additional 3000 cartons in the mix. Temperatures in the far north are similar to be last week with early A.M. temperatures falling within a range of 14.2 - 24.8C across all major growing regions; and day time temperatures still ranging 27.4- 31.9C with varying degrees of humidity. North Qld banana growing regions experienced rainfalls as follows: Mareeba receiving 8.4mm for the week to date; Walkamin with 9.7mm; the coastal regions like Innisfail had falls totaling 32.2mm and South Johnston totaling 55.2mm across the week - a lighter fall in coastal regions than the previous week!

We are seeing the impact of the wet, humid weather throughout a number of Banana displays with blotchy mould present, somewhat dull fruit, light skin marking, thrip damage, sap staining etc - some better displays than others out there.

Queensland major retailers had bananas priced as follows: Aldi’s banana ticket price at $2.89-$3.99/kg; Woolies offered fruit at a ticket price of $2.90 - $3.90/kg; and Coles were offering fruit at $2.90 -$4.00/kg based on store location visited.

AVOCADO OVERVIEW

🥑SUPPLY UPDATE

In a nutshell the national production figures for last week were as follows:

Week 15, 2025 - Avocado production for this week reached 395,280 tray equivalents, approximately 260,000 less than the previous week.

Production across the country saw North Queensland maintain the lead with 63.63% (Shepard and hass) of production; followed by WA/NT (Hass) accounting for 18.26% of the national production; then Central Queensland accounting for 17.57%; and Central NSW for 0.54% of the total production for the week.

It is forecast that a total of some 475,105 tray equivalents will be dispatched this week (Week 16) nationally, with the majority of these being Shepard! Total avocado production for the next three week period thereafter, is expected to fall within the range of 534K-373K tray equivalents per week with 40-55% of this being Shepards and 45-60% being WA Hass. Quite a number of NQ Shepard growers have come to the end of their harvest this week or will be finishing within the next fortnight.

In terms of Avocado retailing in the major supermarkets in Qld this week, we saw Shepard pricing as follows - Aldi had Shepard’s at 89c - $1.19 each; Coles Qld stores visited had Shepard avos at 90c each or 2 for $2.50; and Woolworths were retailing Shepards at $1.00- $1.30 each.

Cavendish Bananas priced at $2.89/kg. Fruit bloom mixed, skin scarring and mixed colour found.

Cavendish at $4.50/kg. Kids packs at $4.50ea. Fruit had good colour, some clusters found with neck injuries and a few with minor marking.

Cavendish at $2.90/kg. Kids packs at $2.90ea.
Red Tips at $5.90/kg. Lady Fingers at $8.90/kg.

Cavendish on display $2.90/kg and Kids Bananas $2.90. Bananas generally well presented, occasion neck injuries, split peel and bat marking on random clusters.

Cavendish priced at $3.90/kg. Kids packs at $3.70ea. Minimal marking this week though there is a presence of some sooty/blotchy mould on a few clusters.
