BANANA OVERVIEW
🍌SUPPLY UPDATE
National Banana transport figures for Week 17 were 502,573 cartons, an increase of approximately 7,000 cartons from Week 16. Temperatures in the far north are a little milder last week with early A.M. temperatures falling within a range of 14.2 - 20.3C across all major growing regions; and day time temperatures still ranging 24.0 - 27.7C with varying degrees of humidity. North Qld banana growing regions experienced rainfalls as follows: Mareeba receiving 0.4mm for the week to date; Walkamin with 5.0mm; the coastal regions like Innisfail had falls totaling 172.0mm and South Johnston totaling 125.0mm across the week.
We are seeing the impact of the wet weather on coastal fruit throughout a number of Banana displays with blotchy mould present, somewhat dull fruit, light skin marking, thrip damage, sap staining etc - displays certainly varied depending on fruit being stocked.
Queensland major retailers had bananas priced as follows: Aldi’s banana ticket price at $3.49/kg; Woolies offered fruit at a ticket price of $4.00/kg; and Coles were offering fruit at $4.50/kg.
