Retail Market Week 19 - 2026

QUICKLINKS

Well hello May the last official month of Autumn!

BANANA OVERVIEW

🍌SUPPLY UPDATE

National Banana transport figures for Week 18 were just over 467,000 cartons which was a decrease of some 35,000 on Week 17 harvest. Temperatures in the far north are similar to be last week with early A.M. temperatures falling within a range of 15.4 - 22.8C across all major growing regions; and day time temperatures still ranging 26.3 - 29.3C with varying degrees of humidity. North Qld banana growing regions experienced rainfalls as follows: Mareeba receiving 1.8mm for the week to date; Walkamin with 2.1mm; the coastal regions had a lighter fall this week with Innisfail having falls totaling 49.4mm and South Johnston totaling 41.0mm across the week.

We are seeing the impact of the wet, humid weather throughout a number of Banana displays with a continued presence of sooty/blotchy mould present, somewhat dull fruit, light skin marking, thrip damage, sap staining etc - we can say that colour of fruit across the board seemed to be hitting the mark.

Queensland major retailers had bananas priced as follows: Aldi’s banana ticket price at $3.69/kg; Woolies offered fruit at a ticket price of $3.50/kg; and Coles were offering fruit at $1.50-4.00/kg.

AVOCADO OVERVIEW

🥑SUPPLY UPDATE

In a nutshell the national production figures for last week were as follows

Week 18, 2025 - Avocado production for this week reached 441,003 tray equivalents, approximately 58,000 less than the previous week.

Production across the country saw North Queensland maintain the lead with 66.31% (Hass approx 248K tray equivalents and shepards approx 66k tray equivalents) of production; followed by Central Queensland accounting for 26.12% of the national production; then WA/NT accounting for 6.35%; then Sunshine Coast for 0.50%; then Central NSW for 0.49% and Southern QLD for 0.22% of the total production for the week. The other interesting point worth noting about Week 18’s national harvest is that of the 441003 tray equivalents, just over 197,000 of these were in the form of bulks for prepacking or for processing etc for food service which puts standard trays of premium quality under pressure in terms of volume available.

It is forecast that a total of some 422,437 tray equivalents will be dispatched this week (Week 19) nationally, with the majority of these now being Hass! Total avocado production for the next three week period thereafter, is expected to fall within the range of 428K-444K tray equivalents per week. As touted by a number of growers from various farms in the far north whilst they are only at early stages of their 2026 hass harvest their trees seem lighter in numbers than first thought.

In terms of Avocado retailing in the major supermarkets in Qld this week, we saw Shepard pricing as follows - Aldi had Shepard’s at $1.49 eachColes Qld stores visited had Shepard avos at $2.50 each; and Woolworths were retailing Shepards at $1.50 each.
