BANANA OVERVIEW

🍌SUPPLY UPDATE

National Banana transport figures for Week 27 were up by approximately 6,800 cartons on Week 26’s harvest at 480,747 cartons. Now that we are well and truly into winter, we can expect production to decline slightly as the temperatures cool and the hours of sunlight are less due to shorter days. Temperatures in the far north remain cooler with temps for last week early A.M. falling within a range of 12.6 - 19.9C across all major growing regions; and day time temperatures still ranging 21.4 - 26.6C. North Qld banana growing regions experienced another relatively dry week on the Tablelands with falls as follows: Mareeba receiving 1.2mm for the week to date; Walkamin with 4.8mm; however the coastal regions saw more rain this week with Innisfail receiving a total of 56.0mm and South Johnston totaling 53.0mm across the week.

Banana displays have improved somewhat in terms of fruit quality - bloom is now mixed with still a percentage of brighter fruit but also a percentage of fruit with dulling bloom, there is also a presence of light skin marking, thrip damage, sap staining and light neck damage in some displays etc .

Queensland major retailers had bananas priced as follows: Aldi’s banana ticket price at $4.49/kg; Woolies offered fruit at a ticket price of $4.50/kg; and Coles were offering fruit at $4.50/kg.

AVOCADO OVERVIEW

In a nutshell the national production figures for last week were as follows:

Week 27, 2025 - Avocado production for this week reached 426,296 tray equivalents, approximately 80,000 less than the previous week.

Production across the country saw North Queensland maintain the lead with 43.65% of production with the principal variety being suppled, hass; Central Queensland accounted for 37.54% of the national production followed next by Southern QLD for 7.39%; then WA/NT for 3.92%; then NZ for 3.14%; then Sunshine Coast for 2.05%; then Central NSW for 1.49% and finally TNR for 0.83% of the total production for the week. The preceding changing percentiles regarding region productivity, clearly demonstrates that a number of NQ Hass growers have either completed their hass season (smaller farms) or are coming closer to the end of production ( we expect our own farms to have steady production through until early August) ; the Central Qld region is also seeing a few growers complete their harvest with more major growers expected to complete harvest in late July; whilst regions further south are slowly on the increase.

It is forecast that a total of some 433,322 tray equivalents will be dispatched this week (Week 28) nationally, with the majority of these being Hass! Total avocado production for the next three week period thereafter, is expected to fall within a similar range of 421K-428K tray equivalents per week.

In terms of Avocado retailing in the major supermarkets in Qld this week, we saw pricing as follows - Aldi with Hass retailng at $1.49ea whilst GMAX were at $2.49 each; Coles Qld stores visited had Hass avos at $1.50 each; and Woolworths were retailing Hass at $1.50 each and Gmax Avo for $2.90/piece.
