BANANA OVERVIEW

🍌SUPPLY UPDATE

National Banana transport figures for Week 35 were sitting at 556,526, an increase of approximately 11500 cartons on Week 34’s 545,101 total cartons. Temperatures in the far north remain cooler with temps for last week early A.M. falling within a range of 13.5 - 18.8C across all major growing regions; and day time temperatures remaining quite mild ranging 23.2 - 25.4C. North Qld banana growing regions experienced another relatively dry week on the Tablelands with falls as follows: Mareeba receiving 3.0mm for the week to date; Walkamin with 4.0mm; and the coastal regions only saw a better fall with Innisfail receiving a total of 25.4mm and South Johnston totaling 38.0mm across the week.

Banana displays are continuing to exhibit a mix of fruit bloom and a continued presence of light skin marking, bat/bird marking, thrip damage, sap staining as well as light neck creasing viewed in some displays etc .

Queensland major retailers had bananas priced as follows: Aldi’s banana ticket price at $4.49/kg; Woolies offered fruit at a ticket price of $4.50-$4.90/kg depending upon location; and Coles were offering fruit at $4.50-$4.90/kg depending upon store location.

AVOCADO OVERVIEW

🥑SUPPLY UPDATE

In a nutshell the national production figures for last week were as follows:

Week 35, 2025 - Avocado production for this week reached 428,159 tray equivalents, approximately 62,000 more than the previous week. The quantity of bulks/processing/other volume has remained steady at just over 103,000 tray equivalents which leaves 325,000 trays (mix of premium and class one) for supermarket and market sales - so whilst somewhat of an improvement in volume compared to last week, there is still pressure on supply when we consider the make up of this volume with respects to suitable sizing and quality grading.

Production across the country saw North Queensland’s level of production maintain the lead in harvest volumes with 19.44% of total production; WA/NT taking second spot this week with 18.79%; then NZ for 16.93%; then Central NSW accounting for 15.42% of the national production followed next by a growing contribution from Southern QLD for 12.27%; and Central QLD for 9.36%; Tristate for 5.18%; TNR for 1.85%; and Sunshine Coast accounting for 0.76% of the total production for the week.

It is forecast that a total of some 405,963 tray equivalents will be dispatched this week (Week 36) nationally, with the majority of these being Hass! Total avocado production for the next three week period thereafter, is expected to fall within a somewhat lower range of 463K-478K tray equivalents per week.

In terms of Avocado retailing in the major supermarkets in Qld this week, we saw pricing as follows - Aldi with Hass retailing at $2.19ea this week whilst GMAX were at $2.49 each; Coles Qld stores visited had Hass avos at $2.30ea; and Woolworths were retailing Hass at $2.30ea and Gmax Avo for $2.90/piece.
