BANANA OVERVIEW

🍌SUPPLY UPDATE

National Banana transport figures for Week 5 were some 481,464 cartons, which was a 38,000 carton decrease compared to that of Week 4. Temperatures in the far north are similar to be last week with early A.M. temperatures falling within a range of 19.0 - 24.2C across all major growing regions; and day time temperatures still ranging 28.0- 33.7C with high humidity. North Qld banana growing regions experienced further rainfalls associated with the traditional wet season: Mareeba receiving 2.6mm for the week to date; Walkamin with 93.0mm; with regions like Innisfail receiving 0mm and South Johnston receiving 29.8mm throughout the week.

Banana displays varied across stores visited, light skin marking and bruising present, occasional presence of sooty mould, some sap staining- but again generally good overall. Cluster length is on the increase.

Queensland major retailers had bananas priced as follows: Aldi’s banana ticket price at $4.49/kg; Woolies offered fruit at a ticket price of $4.50 - $4.90/kg depending upon store location; and Coles were also offering fruit at $3.99-$4.50/kg by tickets on display.

AVOCADO OVERVIEW

🥑SUPPLY UPDATE

In a nutshell the national production figures for last week were as follows

Week 5, 2025 - Production for this week totalled 648,047 tray equivalents, approximately 100,000 more than the previous week.

Production across the country saw WA/NT (Hass) maintaining the lead in terms of production - accounting for 86.31% of the national production, followed by North Queensland accounting for 9.75% (Shepards) ; New Zealand accounting for 2.46% (Hass); Central NSW for 1.20% (other varietals) and Tristate for 0.28% (Reeds+ other) of the total production for the week.

 It is forecast that a total of some 640,865 tray equivalents will be dispatched this week (Week 6) nationally, with the majority of these of course being Hass! Production for the next three week period thereafter, is expected to fall within the range of 647K-648K tray equivalents per week. We are expecting to commence our own Shepard slowly with an initial harvesting by size to occur early in W/C 9th February.

In terms of Avocado retailing in the major supermarkets in Qld this week, we saw hass pricing as follows - Aldi’s Hass at $1.79 eachColes Qld stores visited had Hass avos at 2 for $4.00; and Woolworths were retailing Hass at $2.20ea or 2 for $4.00.
