BANANA OVERVIEW

🍌SUPPLY UPDATE

National Banana transport figures for Week 20 were just over 501,000 cartons which saw an increase of a little over 40,000 cartons on the week prior. Temperatures in the far north are similar to be last week with early A.M. temperatures falling within a range of 15.8 - 21.6C across all major growing regions; and day time temperatures still ranging 24.0 - 29.4C. North Qld banana growing regions experienced rainfalls as follows: Mareeba receiving 1.6mm for the week to date; Walkamin with 6.4mm; the coastal regions still had more significant falls this week with Innisfail receiving a total of 119.0mm and South Johnston totaling 130.4mm across the week.

We continue to see the impact of the wet weather throughout a number of Banana displays with a continued presence of sooty/blotchy mould present, a mix of bloom with a presence of somewhat dull fruit though this had improved this week, light skin marking, thrip damage, sap staining etc .

Queensland major retailers had bananas priced as follows: Aldi’s banana ticket price at $4.29/kg; Woolies offered fruit at a ticket price of $4.50/kg; and Coles were offering fruit at $4.50/kg.

AVOCADO OVERVIEW

🥑SUPPLY UPDATE

In a nutshell the national production figures for last week were as follows:

Week 20, 2025 - Avocado production for this week reached 455,393 tray equivalents, approximately 79,000 more than the previous week.

Production across the country saw North Queensland maintain the lead with 64.52% of production with the principal variety now being suppled being hass; Central Queensland accounting for 32.65% of the national production followed next; then WA/NT accounting for 1.28%; then Central NSW for 0.69%; then Sunshine Coast for 0.53% and Southern Queensland for 0.34% of the total production for the week.

It is forecast that a total of some 472,918 tray equivalents will be dispatched this week (Week 21) nationally, with the majority of these now being Hass though the actual figure may be down considering the rain being experienced in some areas! Total avocado production for the next three week period thereafter, is expected to fall within the range of 412K-476K tray equivalents per week.

In terms of Avocado retailing in the major supermarkets in Qld this week, we saw pricing as follows - Aldi had Hass featured in their catalogue at $1.49 each; Coles Qld stores visited had Hass avos on a multi deal buy with 2 for $4.00 each; and Woolworths were retailing Hass at $2.20 -$2.50 each depending upon store location- also some Woolworths stores also had the Gmax Avo for $2.90/piece generally in a size 16/18 - presence of a few rots, and lenticel damage on a percentage of pieces noted.
