BANANA OVERVIEW

🍌SUPPLY UPDATE

National Banana transport figures for Week 29 were 511,705 cartons and increase of almost 24,000 cartons on the previous week national harvest. Production, despite lifting by 24K is still relatively stable. Temperatures in the far north remain cooler with temps for last week early A.M. falling within a range of 7.1 - 15.7C across all major growing regions; and day time temperatures still ranging 21.5 - 24.9C. With temps dropping down to 7C in some regions in the earlier hours of the morning when the sun is just rising we will continue to see the presence of a percentage of fruit with dull bloom. North Qld banana growing regions experienced another relatively dry week on the Tablelands with falls as follows: Mareeba receiving 0mm for the week to date; Walkamin with 0.8mm; however the coastal regions saw more rain this week with Innisfail receiving a total of 6.8mm and South Johnston totaling 8.2mm across the week.

Banana displays have improved somewhat in terms of fruit quality - bloom is now mixed with a percentage of brighter fruit but also a percentage of fruit with dulling bloom. Also noted is a continued presence of light skin marking, thrip damage, sap staining and light neck damage in some displays etc .

Queensland major retailers had bananas priced as follows: Aldi’s banana ticket price at $4.49/kg; Woolies offered fruit at a ticket price of $4.50/kg; and Coles were offering fruit at $4.50/kg.

AVOCADO OVERVIEW

🥑SUPPLY UPDATE

In a nutshell the national production figures for last week were as follows:

Week 29, 2025 - Avocado production for this week reached 495,890 tray equivalents, approximately 2,000 less than the previous week. Note: approximately 113,000 of this total is in form of bulks and processing fruit; so if we take this quantity out it leaves approximately 383,000 tray equivalents for domestic market and export.

Production across the country saw Central Queensland’s level of production once again lead harvest volumes with 38.42% of total production; North Queensland accounting for 35.15% of the national production followed next by Southern QLD for 11.05%; then Central NSW for 9.46%; NZ for 3.33%; WA/NT for 1.21%; Sunshine Coast for 0.82% and finally TNR for 0.57% of the total production for the week. The preceding changing percentiles regarding region productivity, clearly demonstrates that a number of NQ Hass growers have either completed their hass season (smaller farms) or are coming closer to the end of production ( we expect our own farms to have steady production through until early August) ; the Central Qld region is also seeing a few growers complete their harvest with more major growers expected to complete harvest in late July; whilst regions further south are slowly on the increase - of particular note are Southern Qld and Central NSW.

It is forecast that a total of some 446,955 tray equivalents will be dispatched this week (Week 30) nationally, with the majority of these being Hass! Total avocado production for the next three week period thereafter, is expected to fall within a similar range of 439K-488K tray equivalents per week.

In terms of Avocado retailing in the major supermarkets in Qld this week, we saw pricing as follows - Aldi with Hass retailing at $1.99ea whilst GMAX were at $2.49 each;  Coles Qld stores visited had Hass avos at $2.50 each; and Woolworths were retailing Hass at $2.20 each and Gmax Avo for $2.90/piece.
