BANANA OVERVIEW

🍌SUPPLY UPDATE

National Banana transport figures for Week 30 were 495,594 cartons, a decrease of approximately 16,000 cartons on the previous week’s national harvest. Temperatures in the far north remain cooler with temps for last week early A.M. falling within a range of 7.3 - 16.5C across all major growing regions; and day time temperatures still ranging 20.8 - 26.9C. With temps dropping down to 7C in some regions in the earlier hours of the morning when the sun is just rising we will continue to see the presence of a percentage of fruit with dull bloom. North Qld banana growing regions experienced another relatively dry week on the Tablelands with falls as follows: Mareeba receiving 0.2mm for the week to date; Walkamin with 2.0mm; however the coastal regions saw more rain this week with Innisfail receiving a total of 29.6mm and South Johnston totaling 19.6mm across the week.

Banana displays have improved somewhat in terms of fruit quality - bloom is now mixed with a percentage of brighter fruit but also a percentage of fruit with dulling bloom. Also noted is a continued presence of light skin marking, thrip damage, sap staining and light neck damage in some displays etc .

Queensland major retailers had bananas priced as follows: Aldi’s banana ticket price at $4.49/kg; Woolies offered fruit at a ticket price of $4.50/kg; and Coles were offering fruit at $4.50/kg.

AVOCADO OVERVIEW

🥑SUPPLY UPDATE

In a nutshell the national production figures for last week were as follows:

Week 30, 2025 - Avocado production for this week reached 475,783 tray equivalents, approximately 20,000 less than the previous week; and approximately 20% of the total production was in the form of bulks/processing lines.

Production across the country saw Northern Queensland’s level of production marginally take lead harvest volumes with 36.28% of total production; Central Queensland accounting for 36.08% of the national production followed next by Southern QLD for 12.12%; then Central NSW for 6.87%; WA/NT for 4.07%; NZ for 2.12%; TNR for 1.47% and finally Sunshine Coast for 1.00% of the total production for the week. The preceding changing percentiles reflect the changing regional productivity, our own farms still have another 3-4 weeks of harvesting hass whilst a couple of other major suppliers it is believed will have their NQ and Central Qld seasons come to an end in another two weeks ; regions further south e.g. Southern Qld and Central NSW are gaining some traction.

It is forecast that a total of some 509,379 tray equivalents will be dispatched this week (Week 31) nationally, with the majority of these being Hass! Total avocado production for the next three week period thereafter, is expected to fall within a similar range of 479K-530K tray equivalents per week.

In terms of Avocado retailing in the major supermarkets in Qld this week, we saw pricing as follows - Aldi with Hass retailing on a red ticket special of $1.79ea whilst GMAX were at $2.49 each;  Coles Qld stores visited had Hass avos at $1.80 each; and Woolworths were retailing Hass at $2.20 ea or 2 for $4.00 and Gmax Avo for $2.90/piece.
