AVOCADO OVERVIEW

🥑SUPPLY UPDATE

In a nutshell the national production figures for last week were as follows:

Week 31, 2025 - Avocado production for this week reached 534,808 tray equivalents, approximately 59,000 more than the previous week. Whilst the total production figure is up, it is worthy to note that just over 115,000 of this total is in the form of bulks/processing fruit which leaves approximately 407,000 tray equivalents for all markets. If we use a figure of say 80% of this total of tray equivalents this would equate to approx 325,600 trays that would be premium - then consider that approx 22% of this are sizing 14-16; 28-30 - this leaves 253,600 premium trays in sizing 18-25 for main sales.

Production across the country saw Northern Queensland’s level of production maintain the lead in harvest volumes with 35.09% of total production; Central Queensland accounting for 31.54% of the national production followed next by Central NSW for 11.85%; then Southern QLD for 10.18%; WA/NT for 4.57%; NZ for 3.23%; TNR for 2.14% and finally Sunshine Coast for 1.39% of the total production for the week. The preceding changing percentiles reflect the changing regional productivity, our own farms still have another 2-3 weeks of harvesting hass whilst a couple of other major suppliers it is believed will have their NQ and Central Qld seasons come to an end in another one-two weeks ; regions further south e.g. Southern Qld and Central NSW are gaining traction.

It is forecast that a total of some 501,288 tray equivalents will be dispatched this week (Week 32) nationally, with the majority of these being Hass! Total avocado production for the next three week period thereafter, is expected to fall within a similar range of 447K-537K tray equivalents per week.

In terms of Avocado retailing in the major supermarkets in Qld this week, we saw pricing as follows - Aldi with Hass retailing at $1.79ea whilst GMAX were at $2.49 each;  Coles Qld stores visited had Hass avos at 2 for $4.00; and Woolworths were retailing Hass at $2.20ea and Gmax Avo for $2.90/piece.
